The main element of the flag of Antigua and Barbuda is the sun that symbolizes the dawn of a new era. The sun is encased in an inverted tri-colored triangle which, in its turn, is placed upon the red field. The flag was adopted in 1967, this adoption was marked with the flag design competition in which more than 600 local people took part.
